Magan Simon earns credential as an expert in upper limb rehabilitation

Working with a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is beneficial to patients.

The loss of hand function through injury or disease can devastate lives. The Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential offers assurance to the public that the therapist treating them has achieved the highest recognition of competency in the profession of upper limb rehabilitation. Magan Simon, Occupational Therapist at Redwood Area Hospital, has earned the distinguished CHT designation after completing all required examinations and clinical studies.

These requirements include at least three years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist, a minimum of 4,000 hours in direct practice in hand therapy, and successful completion of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper limb rehabilitation. There are approximately 6,200 individuals worldwide hold this marked designation.

“Because the hand is such a compact structure, the margin between good function and bad is very slim,” explains rehab manager Stacey Heiling. “Having a Certified Hand Therapist on staff at Redwood Area Hospital gives our community the best opportunity for rehabilitation and good results after hand or upper limb surgery.”
